Cat. #00548231: CHARLES WAGENHEIM

Exceptionally rare vintage black felt-tip pen signature on a 4x6-inch double-weight stationery card, acquired in-person by a busy Los Angeles-based autograph hound named Bob in the late 1970s, about a year before the 83-year-old star was tragically beaten to death by a burglar. In very good condition and ideal for matting with a favorite photograph. Note that the image of the star shown here alongside the scan of the autograph is not included. In films from 1929, diminutive, creepy-looking character actor Charles Wagenheim landed the plum role of the assassin in Alfred Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent in 1940, after which he was locked into playing seedy, unappetizing tramps, drunks, thieves, morgue attendants, killers, and henchmen. He appeared in a number of classic horror films, including Dr. Renault's Secret (1942), Calling Dr. Death (1943), House of Frankenstein (1944), The Jungle Captive (1944), The Brute Man (1946), House of Horrors (1946), and The Spiral Staircase (1946). He also popped up in several episodes of T.V.'s "The Addams Family" (1964-1966).
